We’ve gotten kind of used to this ‘Full liquid diet’ thing, unfortunately. 6 months ago he was on one for 40 days straight! Hard for a 10 year old, but he gets through! We wanted to share some of his FAVORITES to help give others ideas on what they may like to try when having to face the diet as well. Remember this is a FULL liquid diet, not to be confused with a CLEAR liquid diet, which is a whole new ball game. We just finished that one and got upgraded! We obviously LOVE Tropical Smoothie if you’ve been following along and McDonalds yogurt parfaits. For now, I don’t let him eat the fruit, just the vanilla yogurt. Once we move up to ‘mush’ he can eat the entire parfait! Walker is a very picky eater, and anything that tastes slightly off, he won’t drink or eat. I thought for sure going through this, he would start to try new things....but no such luck. So I’m on a mission to find things he likes and keeps him healthy!
When he first had to be on this diet 6 months ago, I tried hiding all sorts of protein drinks into his smoothies, Muscle Milk, Premier Protein, Boost, Ensure....you name it, we tried it....FAIL EVERYTIME! He could TASTE it every single time and refused to drink it! This time I was told about LiquaCel packets. Each packet has 16g of protein and is a clear colored gel. They offer a variety of flavors and I blend in and it’s almost like an added fruity sweetener! He loved it! Score! FINALLY A WIN! I also have been buying frozen fruit versus fresh. It blends better into a frozen smoothie and I add a little frozen spinach and he doesn’t even know. Momma is getting GOOD! The other things he seems to enjoy are yoplait yogurts in a variety of flavors, frozen go-gurts, jello, pudding, & Jello Lemon meringue and strawberry cheesecake snack paks. He enjoys applesauce, ice cream, milkshakes and a variety of different sherbets and sorbets! I gotta watch myself with all these tubs of ice cream around....or I’ll weigh 500 pounds! Obviously milk, juices, and gatorades are on the list as well! Lastly, he is allowed oatmeal according to our nutritionist but it’s got to be really smooth with lots of milk to make it almost a ‘soupy’ texture. I’m sure many are thinking why not just eat....SOUP! Trust me, that would be awesome! No such luck, not even broth or mashed potatoes. Ugh. Hoping his palate keeps growing as he does! But we’re doing great and only 4 more days until we get to advance again! I’ll post our next list of favorites once we progress to MUSH!
